The preserve was across the street from the Marriott. One morning, in August 2015, I decided to try this hike out. I didn't have runners, only sandals, but that was fine. I went out mid morning before it got really hot. Actually, was pretty warm then too. There are cyclists, runners, walkers, and roller bladers along the trail. Also, a... 更多
There are many hiking and walking options in this consciously preserved land. There's even a 12-1/2 mile loop for the day-biker. At times it's so quiet all you hear are birds and insects. You'd never know how close to city life you are. A great place to reconnect with yourself. One important note -- ONLY SERVICE ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED. Do... 更多
The center has very interesting displays on the local wildlife and plant life of the Upper Newport Bay, including a small aquarium with local fish and other sea life and many taxidermically preserved animals and birds. A short video on Upper Newport Bay can be seen "on demand" in a dedicated viewing room, and it is very interesting and extremely... 更多
The visitor's center was excellent. Stop by there first before walking. We walked west along the upper edge and then down through a small wooded area and came back along the water's edge. Very enjoyable.
Both paved and dirt paths. I did ride this route with one small section through the neighborhood, and that was nice as well. Nice views all the way around the bay
The Nature Center has a small environmental center which provides a useful orientation to what you may see along the miles of well-kept trails. You may spot a coyote, as we did not, or an osprey feeding, as we observed for over an hour. A beautiful place to escape the hustle and bustle of Newport Beach.
I take my dog hiking here all the time. It is good mix of trails. I enjoy the feeling of being out in the open while seeing the view of the bay. There are coyotes so look out for them
Great place to walk on well maintained paths. There is also a nature conservancy museum with interesting details about the habitat. Recommend stopping in here first to enhance you walk the first time out.
Surrounded by high rises and freeways, this little gem of a park is a true oasis. Walking trails, nature viewing, interpretive signs all on the upper Newport Bay. A nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
