I enjoy wines from the Shafer vineyard so I was super excited when our friends scored a private tasting during a recent stay. However, once we finished my husband and our friends all said the same thing, for the price and name I expected more. The vineyard is off the main road and a little hard to find so you... 更多
Back again after another year, had a conference to attend in Santa Rosa, wife flew out, and we couldn't be this close and not make a stop at Shafer! Love the Hillside Select, just don't love the price.
Shafer. If you love their wines then go visit the winery and see the vineyards. If not, then don't feel bad about skipping this one. Meh.
Beautiful property and very nice host (Bob). Wines were excellent, and we were able to try 5 of them including the Hillside select. They sold out of Relentless, so that was not available, which is a big dissapointment. No food served at all except for breadsticks. Wines were heavy and needed some cheese or food.
Make sure to reserve your tasting. The vineyard is beautiful and private. The tasting included 6 other people and was wonderful. Lots of history of the vineyard and wines was shared.
Let me start by saying I am partial to Shafer. Their One Point Five was the first wine I ever truly fell in love with, and this is the winery I was most looking forward to visiting. Hands down the best wine tasting we had on our 3 day trip. The staff was great, educational, fun, friendly, and shared with us wine far better than anywhere else we went. I'd save this one for your last day, or you will suffer like I did hearing my wife say let's go back to Shafer today instead.
This was our opportunity to try one of the most elegant wines perhaps around at the orgin. No let down here. Very nice and friendly atmosphere with the full story of Shafer wines made it perfect. If you only have time for one stop as we this is the place and it is worth a detour.
Beautiful site, starting with tour of nearby vineyard. Then into a lovely tasting room for a well-prepared array of wines. There was a decent pour of five wines and a helpful booklet with information and room for tasting notes. Finally, we had a lovely port with chocolate to end. Overall, the best experience for the value of our visit.
