The "park" refers to the Custom House Plaza (right next to Fisherman's Wharf) and the buildings on the Path of History. These are the preserved original buildings (with some necessary renovations). The tour was well worth it, gives an excellent history of the inhabitants of Monterey. It was just ds and myself, so a private tour. I would have liked to go into some of the other buildings, but ds wouldn't have been interested, so I skipped that. It's a beautiful part of town, lovely gardens, nice to walk around.
It is nice to see how the history is preserved and you can enjoy it all for free. Grab a map and follow the stone path in the ground and you will learn a bit about the history of the area and will pass through several nice gardens.
This is a excellent place to learn about the history of Monterey and the peoples who lived here, Upstairs there is a area dedicated to the Native Americans who fisrt lived here and their way of life. The museum is free to the public and is housed in the historic buildings in the Plaza next to the Wharf.
The old buildings around this area are so awesome! Really great condition and there's a museum (free) to enjoy as well. Totally worth the walk through when in Monterey.
I happened onto this rather by chance. We walked through a small garden and toured the customs house. The ranger was very knowledgeable and I learned some interesting tidbits about the architecture. It doesn't take a great deal of time. It's free.
The place where California became California is commemorated here, for the first Theater is near by and one can get a taste of the history that abounds in this lovely bayside town.
This is basically a walk between original (and renovated) early buildings. The Customs house is a key part, but the exhibits are limited as is the explanations. The docents were nice and informative however. If you take the time to hit a number of places, you start to get an idea of a built up center in early Spanish/Mexican California... 更多
