We were drawn to the beach from above the cliffs, watching the surfers. As a few of them climbed over the cliff top from the beach carrying their boards, it seemed like a great place to climb down to the beach. Wrong! Just a word of caution. These daredevils climb cliffs on perilous trails more dangerous than the surf itself.
This was a really fun beach lots to watch. There where a lot of surfers, lots of activity around with swimmers, looked like you could send a day here. Bathrooms and outdoor shower available and parking.
Mission Beach is one of my favorite places on this planet. Huge, wide beach. Lots of surfing. A long long paved walkway as well as the sandy beach to walk on. Many little shops and restaurants along the way. Just heaven.
love to swing by and just watch when I am in SD. Grab your Bird Rock espresso and just go and watch the surf and the surfers. Saw whales last time I was here- it was very early in the am.
Waves vary from one end of the long beach to another so surfers of all experience frequent the surf. The result is that there are almost always a lot of surfers to watch. The beach itself is wide and sandy, especially at low tide.
Take Tourmaline Street west, and just before the ocean, is Tourmaline surfing park. The storm drain outlet is here, so avoid this (and all other beaches) for 72 hours after it rains. Pretty good surf spot, but not sand...Rocks and pebbles, so not as much splashing-around fun, unless you wear water shoes. A nice place to sit on the giant... 更多
Ugh. This was one of the grossest beach parks I've been to, period. Ancient, filthy bathrooms with one large dirty changing area, so absolutely no privacy whatsoever. A steep walk down to minimal parking. 2-3 feet thick of stinking, rotting kelp and seaweed on the shore with thousands of flies, and water that was about 1 part seaweed to 3... 更多
Off to one of the best surfing beaches in the San Diego area. Great parking and I walked the beach twice in the past couple of day, 4 miles, and saw three pieces of man-made trash. Better than any other beach I have been on in SoCal. Don't surf but can appreciate watching their skills...especially our 9 year old grandson.
