If you're visiting Gold Country, you need to stop by this small museum. I live in Grass Valley, but often take out-of-town guests there. The only drawback is that the museum building isn't reliably open. Still lots of impressive mining equipment to see (for free).
After your visit to Empire this must be your next visit. All you need to know in how they got the shinny stuff out of the ground. Ideal for all the family.
This is an excellent museum to take the kids to. Very informed guides, lots to see. Small enough to keep the kids' attention. Highly recommend
