This is a small mission, which I proported to be the oldest in the area. The bell tower is separated from the church, not a common construction in Missions. We observed the bells, strolled through the aged cemetery and then entered the church. It was long and darkened. Definitely a step back into the past.
This is one of oldest Mission, It is very small but very close to Pala Casino & Resort . Very easy to find. This dafinately for the History lovers.
We have visited almost all of the California missions, and this was the most underwhelming.... The church and cemetery were open, but there was no one else around. It's an OK spot to stop for 15 minutes if you're driving by, but (unlike the other missions) it isn't worth a side trip.
This is a good place to learn about one of the early California missions. It's a nice and quiet place to visit and to imagine what life must have been like a couple of hundred years ago in the Golden State.
No entry fee. Parking is easy. Very small chapel. No one was there at the time we came. The gift shop was closed because it's only open Wednesday through Saturday. We went to the chapel at San Juan Capistrano, it is so much nicer. They have audio self-guided tours.
We visited Mission San Antonio de Pala. It was founded in June 13, 1816. It is both a historic mission and an active school and congregation today. One can take tours of the mission. There is also things to see outside the mission such as the burial ground where Native Americans converts to Catholicism, as well as other pioneers. There... 更多
The small sub-mission of San Antonio de Pala (called an 'asistencia' in its Spanish title) is an outlying Catholic Church depending from Mission San Luis Rey de Francia near Oceanside 20 miles to the west (or as the Spanish put it, 7 leagues to the west, or one day's horseback ride to the west. It was founded in 1816, and... 更多
Several reviews have noted that TripAdvisor has the wrong city for this church. It is indeed in Pala, not Escondido. (TripAdvisor: please update the city on the listing). If you visit, you'll find a quaint church still true to its original mission, to serve the local Pala tribe. The church is long, narrow and dark, but stay a while, and... 更多
We enjoyed the mission and the grounds. It is a very historic and peaceful place to spend an hour. The flowers and statues are well maintained.
