We wanted to take a time out from all the hiking, during our Yosemite trip, so we ended up checking out Columbia State Historic Park. I saw a sign for it off a major road in Groveland. It consists of a few blocks of a recreation of stores/buildings during the gold rush days-life in the 1800s. Depending on the time/day,... 更多
Columbia State Historic Park is a wonderful re-creation of sights and sounds of gold-rush days. The stage coach will take you past huge boulders, and sometimes there is a hold-up - you never know. The Candy Kitchen, City Hotel, and Fallon House are favorites. The Fallon House (theater) has a wonderful bar where you can't get whiskey, but they sell... 更多
Love coming here with the family. Plenty to see and do. Gold panning is fun. Candy shop,Ice cream parlor, and gift shops. Walk around and get the feeling of history.
Want to see what California life was like in the 1800's? Pack up your family and bring them here. A slice of the 19th century, the Columbia State Park has lots to offer, from stagecoach rides to old fashioned candy, from gold panning to blacksmithing. There are docents everywhere in period costumes, ready and willing to tell you about like... 更多
The columbia state park was a fun visit for my mom and I. It basically has taken all these old buildings from a mining/cowboy town and fixed them up. Some are full of relics of the past and most are full of stores and eateries. Two very interesting old hotels are available for a stay. We were there for Easter... 更多
Not exactly authentic display, mostly tourist traps. For adults there are few interesting ancient stuff to see, but doesn't worth the visit.
The major bonus to Columbia us that it is free. We visited from Sonora for the afternoon, had lunch in the salon, had a wander through the town and my husband also had a gold panning lesson. It's a bit of a tourist trap but we had s good time and John who taught the gold panning was knowledgable and... 更多
This is a very well run California State park with great historical events for children and adults. Admission is free with plenty of parking but you pay for activities like the stage coach ride or gold panning. The old buildings, school and surrounding rock formations are great for exploring. The video sharing the history of the town is very informative.... 更多
Went here for the bouldering with some friends (great bouldering). We walked into the main street and it was very amusing. Probably good for a half-day visit (at most) as an adult. Not a ton to do, but it's interesting. Blacksmith, saloon, carriage rides, old jail, old-timey photos.
I think I was expecting something that was a little more of just an exhibit. So it was really enjoyable that there was a working saloon, working candy, coffee and gift shops. The bowling lane was a lot of fun. Seemed like we must have been there at a good time as someone in December seemed to bemoan that things... 更多
Great parking. Kids LOVE the gold panning for gold and gems which is $5 for all day fun. The museum is a great place to start. Watch the video in the museum. They had a ranger talk at 11AM that wasn't advertised. Make sure to try bowling, too.
Columbia State Historic Park is a place not to be missed. Learn to pan for gold and gems there. Also tour the city and read all the information about this time in history. Don't miss the ice cream shop. Also try the Sarsaparilla drink. It was a perfect sunny day in March to visit the city.
I haven't been here for over 20 years and it hasn't changed. A nice collection of buildings and artifacts that let you get the feel of an old mining town.
