Monastery Beach is one of the most accessible and visible beaches on the Monterey Peninsula. It's also one of the most dangerous, as other reviewers have noted. While I've been in the water here numerous times (I was SCUBA certified here in college), I'm still always careful swimming here, and I don't recommend it due to the sometimes dangerous conditions... 更多
I stopped here early in the morning - before sunrise - because of the waves and tide, so I had the entire beach to myself. The beach was very clean, and seems as if it would be a good option on a warm, sunny day, though Carmel Beach might be a superior choice.
The nicest access to the beach is through the carmel meadows in a neighborhood off Ribera Road. At the left side of the neighborhood you can park and walk through a beautiful tree-lined staircase down to the beach. The water is very deep and has a terrible undertow so it is strictly for rock hopping and sand play. There are... 更多
We did a quick stop here to simply check the water temperature - we are tourists and it seemed an easy place to paddle. Saw the warning signs and proceeded with care. Nice clean beach with quite a few families sitting in the sun. Not sand as it looked more like small pebbles. The Pacific was cold! Even on a... 更多
This is a very nice walk between the two beaches: Monastery and Carmel River State Beach. It walks you right along the coast line. No trees along this walk so if hot out the sun does beat down on you. It is a locals spot and stays less traveled. Trail is not busy but has great coastal views, esp of... 更多
Please Read....Right off the highway but DANGEROUS ! NICE VIEWS ....never crowded . READ what the locals and experienced divers say about this beach. WAVES break right on the shoreline...EASY TO GET YOUR LEGS BROKEN !!! NO BS.....similar beach in Hong Kong saw lady get slammed by a very small wave, her back or neck was broken by the water's... 更多
This is a quite beach area with a nice trail along the coast. Great dive site with very clear water. As others have said pay attention and be careful.
Sitting beneath the gaze of a place pulled out of time, the Monastery Beach is a destination worth endeavoring to. The view of Point Lobos alone is worth it, but beware of this rugged coast as its currents have been detrimental to unwary tourists. Obey all the signs and enjoy a wonderful beach away from the hustle and bustle of... 更多
The entry/exit was challenging, but the dive was outstanding! Don't even try to walk out of the water, just plan on doing the "Monastary Crawl" :)
