Our group was the only one to have visited Shobak that day. Everyone else was missing an experience! It's exactly how you imagine a castle should be with lots of tunnels and passages to explore.

We stopped on the way from Petra to Amman and spent a morning roaming Shobak Castle with our tour guide. The history of its construction and use was interesting and there was lots to see in the castle itself. The views of the valley were fantastic - hard to imagine anyone trying to storm this fortress!
For a small fee, free with Jordan Pass, you can explore the old crusader castle at your leisure. This is not an extremely well developed tourist area, but well worth the stop if you are in Jordan for a few days. Fun to climb and explore without a lot of restrictions. We had the entire place to ourselves when we visited last june! Truly amazing you can just wander all through the different layers and levels of this castle! Really felt like Indiana Jones. Be warned, there are no railings and air shafts right in the middle of the paths, bring a flash light if your going deep into the tunnels... 更多
