One of the most beautiful sights to see on the island. It's always something to look at a caldera, but the one here is just magnificent. I've never seen anything like this. It is a unique spot on the island, for sure, because of its specific microclimate. Easy access, and fantastic spot for photographers.
The microclimate atmospheric zone and marshes in this out of this world crater lake is not like any place we have seen. The view of the lake in the vulcano cráter of Rano Kau is beautiful and unique. A still well preserved environment and piece of nature. One of the highlights in our tour around Rapa Nui! We went back twice during our ten day stay on the island. You can do some great walks around the área.

You (I) believe to see grass on the bottom of the crater, but these are all reeds. The crater is still used by locals to collect certain medicines etcetera. People used to live in the crater, proof... 更多
Such a complex history on such a small island. Intriguing. Much information to be found at the visitor information centre. It is worth the walk along the caldera rim for the the views and serenity.
