Boothill Graveyard was the Tombstone City Cemetery from 1878 to 1884. It was not called Boothill until the 1920s. Its occupants ran the spectrum of all the cultures and nationalities of early Tombstone. Cowboys who "died with their boots on" lie next to housewives, business men and women, miners, gamblers, ladies of the "red-light district" and all the famous and not so famous occupants that contributed to Tombstone's early history. By the 1920s, Boothill had fallen into ruin with many grave markers lost or unreadable. A group of citizens in Tombstone and Cochise County began the task of researching old burial records, consulting with relatives, older residents, and using all means available to identify the occupants and mark the graves properly. The task took several years and the efforts of many to accomplish. This resulted in the graveyard being restored much as it was in the early years when it was the city cemetery.

This cemetery brings old west history to life (pun intended). It is well maintained, offers a great vistas and plenty of souvenirs. Be prepared to walk.

After spending a few days in Tombstone and becoming familiar with some of the stories it was interesting to walk around and see the final resting place of some of the historical figures. Paid $3 donation for a bit a guide-sheet. Spent about 45 mins here. The stories give you a sense of how tough and wild the West was!

I've been to many cemeteries in my life but I've never seen on just like this. For the age of it it is very well maintained. Such beautiful view and the history is just great. The plots are all rocks and underbrush it is truly amazing

Seeing the different graves and the booklet helped to put some of the history of the deceased with the sign of the times they lived.

A graveyard like no other so many famous people and so much history right infront of you. Take time to walk around and read every grave stone it is quite thought provoking . The grave yard is 200meters on the edge of town but worth the walk to it.

As with any older cemetery the headstones tell the history of the times and often the person buried there. Boot Hill is no exception. Walking through Boot Hill is like walking through time as you read the names of the people buried there and how they died. Politically Incorrect, the headstones will read two Chinese. killed by Apaches, unknown etc.... 更多

The gift shop was reasonable and the clerk looked like an old gunslinger. We got to take our time both in the shop and out in the graveyard. The old cactus and plants were rugged and gave the place an eerie old feeling. The text on the tombstones was interesting and I felt like it was the old west talking.... 更多

Boothill cemetery. Looks like most of the people who are interred here died between 1879 and 1884. Of note, a slave in the top row (John Swain), the 3 guys killed in OK Corral shootout. Some killed by disease, natural causes, gun fight, hanging, suicide, murder and Indians. Free will offering, kinda like a Baptist Church.

Visited Boothill Graveyard in Oct. 2016. A really interesting place. Takes you back more than a few year into the history of the Wild West. Many graves in Boothill date back to the 1880s and the days of the Gunfight at the OK Corral and have unusual inscriptions like 'hanged by mistake' or 'killed by Indians' or 'killed by apaches'... 更多
