Love this part of the Ruins tour with Pink Jeep tours - seeing how our Native Americans existed, using existing cliffs to protect them, etc., shows how intelligent they were. Love the petroglyphs on the cliff walls - it was fun speculating what they mean though there is nothing in existence that explains the drawings and their meanings. Learning how... 更多
The US Forest rangers were just awesome with all the history of this area. Suggest calling ahead for a reservation for a tour. The gift store was an added bonus. They even provided walking sticks for the short hike.
We decided to go see the ruins, however didn't realize they did not open every day and this particular ruin closed at 3pm. We drove our CUV rental down the road and its a bumpy, rocky road so you need to drive very slow. It took us probably 30mins by the time we got to where the ruins in. There... 更多
These magnificent ruins gave us great insight into the ancient history of the area, and some better understanding of native peoples in general. Archaeologists believe they were built in the 1100's by the Sinagua tribe, then later occupied and expanded by at least two successive tribes, all possibly part of the Hopi nation, then was abandoned before the Spanish arrived.... 更多
Our guide, Cathryn from Pink Jeep Tours, was very knowledgeable and told us of the history of the area. She also spoke of the vegetation of the area and how it was used by the ancient peoples. The walk was not strenuous. It was a pleasant afternoon and watching the shadows shift with the changing light was a treat.
The road to Honanki is long and a challenge for traveling in a rental sedan, but it can be done. The experience is rewatding as the ancient wall art is spectacular. A great experience.
I loved the history of the native residents who were first in this part of the country. It was very worth the time to visit the past and learn about how they lived.
We rented a 4 wheeler and took the trail to the Honanki Ruins. They are for sure worth seeing whether you take yourself or do one of the jeep tours in Sedona that go there. The park is well kept and the ranger as we were leaving inquired about how easy was it for us to find our way on... 更多
Very knowledgeable guides (be sure you call ahead for a reservation) and an easy climb. They even have walking sticks to loan us. Nice!
