We were looking for some artisan goods such as ponchos, rugs and pottery so went to the artisan market. The selection was ok, a bit strange there were no rugs in the entire market and it is one of the most typical artisan goods from NW Argentina. Prices were significantly higher than in other shops or in the small towns.
It is one of the best places to shop for regional handcrafts and artisanal products made by local artisans and artists. There is a great variety of products including mate, bombillas, frames made of wood and alpaca (metal), also clothing such as scarfs, pashminas, sweaters made of guanaco and alpaca (cloth). On one side of the street is the true artesanal shops with nice, handmade products. Across the street is a cluster of stands offering Andean style products such as ponchos, hats, musical instruments, etc. Depending on what you are looking for, it could be worth your while.
