...with winding medieval narrow streets on either side, this is a very lovely church. The tower has a 16th century clock, complete with pigeons flying around when the bells ring. The altar is white and gold Baroque and be sure to walk around to see the side chapels. There is no entry fee.
Igreja de Sao Joao Baptista is set within Tomar's picturesque central square opposite the impressive 17th century town hall. Its octagonal bell tower and beautiful Manueline architectural style make for wonderful photo opportunities. The intricately carved stone entranceway and velvet curtain acting as an outer 'door' is quite befitting of this Templar town.
