Beautiful and impressive aqueduct. Easy to reach and just a few Km from Tomar. Was almost empty when we arrived. Amazing views and possibility to walk along the top but be careful: there's no safety barrier and it's a long fall down. :-)
Follow to Leiria, then it is marked as "Aqueduto des Pegões". Fantastic scenery. Not equiped for visiting, so be careful especially with children.
You can get right up onto the aqueduct and it is in a lovely quiet area that we had to ourselves on the day. Good photo opportunity
Worthwhile taking a short detour on the way into or out of Tomar to see (part of) this huge Aqueduct. You don't need very long, but worth checking out if you have a car.
We went to see this with Tuk Lovers tours and really found it interesting to see. It isn't Roman but employed both Gothic and Roman arch design. You can see it entering the Convento as well as the impressive section crossing the valley. Worth the trip!
Impressive in size and length. So well preserved! Went early in the morning on a clear December day -- the views were amazing and we were the only ones there. You can climb (with caution) and take great pictures!!!! Worth the time to go visit. No fees and no crowds--awesome!
although i picked a rather wet and windy day to go to the pegoes viaduct i left a hour later feel quite happy with myself.for those that don't drive it's a 45 minute walk from tomar railway station and when you arrive the sheer size of it is quite impressive and as others have mentioned you can walk from one... 更多
but also get out and climb on top of it! You don't have to walk on the 'bridge' if you fear heights, for there's a house in the middle of it and stairs and if you go up there, you have a great view in front of you! Also, the mechanics behind this Aqueduct are very interesting as well if... 更多
Roman reins that take your breath away just from the shear size. Shows off the skill's they had in those days. A must to see and experience if you visit Tomar.
We had read about the Pegoes Aqueduct but were really not expecting the amazing sight we came across. It seemed to extend for such a long distance and appeared to be in excellent condition winding it's way through the countryside. We spent a lot of time taking photos and it was such a thrill to be able to walk along... 更多
