This is just outside of Tomar though it's not well signposted from Tomar direction. I'm a fan of aquaducts (no, really) - they are always a reminder of what amazing things people built centuries ago that had a genuine purpose and they never fail to make great photographs. One warning for people with young children or people with vertigo: there's... 更多
Beautiful and impressive aqueduct. Easy to reach and just a few Km from Tomar. Was almost empty when we arrived. Amazing views and possibility to walk along the top but be careful: there's no safety barrier and it's a long fall down. :-)
This is, I am told a unique construction with a bland of Gothic and Roman architecture. The engineering is impressive, the sheer size is impressive, the design is impressive. Worth taking the time to visit it.
There's no touristy fuss about this awesome aqueduct. You can drive past and admire it, or you can stop on the gravel area offroad to take a closer look. There is no charge to wander up the steps. For the very brave it is possible to walk along the top if the aqueduct for what must be an outstanding view... 更多
Follow to Leiria, then it is marked as "Aqueduto des Pegões". Fantastic scenery. Not equiped for visiting, so be careful especially with children.
You can get right up onto the aqueduct and it is in a lovely quiet area that we had to ourselves on the day. Good photo opportunity
Worthwhile taking a short detour on the way into or out of Tomar to see (part of) this huge Aqueduct. You don't need very long, but worth checking out if you have a car.
We went to see this with Tuk Lovers tours and really found it interesting to see. It isn't Roman but employed both Gothic and Roman arch design. You can see it entering the Convento as well as the impressive section crossing the valley. Worth the trip!
Impressive in size and length. So well preserved! Went early in the morning on a clear December day -- the views were amazing and we were the only ones there. You can climb (with caution) and take great pictures!!!! Worth the time to go visit. No fees and no crowds--awesome!
