It's everything the other reviewer have written and more, there's not much more to add. This church played an important role, providing a place for the student to meet and make their plans. We highly recommend a visit here with a guide to truly appreciate the role of the church and the building.
Interesting and atmospheric place, hearing about its past from a member of the congregation, with the history of the church depicted on the stain glass windows and inspiring how it is looking to the future.
The carefully crafted stained glasses tell the great history of the South Africa and in particular the struggle against apartheid. The tour guide was amazing in mixing the sobering experience and current affairs globally. The tour takes at least half an hour. Upstairs you read more about SOWETO and its evolving history.
You have to go inside in order to understand the size of this church. The story of the uprising is depicted beautifully in stained glass windows.

Bullet holes are still evident in the roof of the church. Our guide placed us in the capable hands of a... 更多
This is the largest church in Soweto and can seat over 2,000 people. It was the centre of the student uprising in the 70's resulting in the storming of the church by the police firing guns and damaging the alter. You can still see the bulletin holes. This chick has been visited by many world leaders including Angela Merkel and... 更多

Bullet holes are still visible in the ceiling, and the marble on the altar still shows the would of the butts of... 更多

Some of the bullet holes and other destruction in the church still remain. The church was the location for funerals of many of the children killed in the Soweto uprisings. Many... 更多
