Cleopatra Hill has a big J for the town of Jerome. Under the hill are miles and miles of tunnels. The area is no longer mined. It is a strenuous hike to the top. The hill was covered in trees until they were all cut for supports for the mine.
The hill with the J on can be seen for miles from Jerome...It is possible to drive around and is a well known landmark which towers over the town.... The hill has little in the way of vegetation but is still worth the visit..

We discovered Jerome entirely by accident. We were staying in Sedona and rode the Verde Canyon Railway. We saw the big J on the hill and asked our train attendant what it was and she filled us in. Interested, we immediately drove up to check it out. This was once a mining town that was abandoned when the mine closed.... 更多
I didn't actually hike to the top of Cleopatra Hill, but I saw it all day as I walked around in the Jerome area. I could see it really well from the Jerome State Park. Love that J! And I love those houses nestled at the foot of it.
Take the scenic drive through Jerome and visit the galleries, shops, wineries and great Restaurants. Be careful because some sections are one way roads. We had a few people that were going the wrong way.
