We decided to stop here on our way to Denali to burn a few extra hours. I'm glad we did. This is an old gold mine camp that lies at the top of a beautiful mountain bowl near Hatcher Pass. It has old bunk houses and of course old mine relics, including machines, mine cars, old ore crushing buildings etc.... 更多
It was a bit of drive into the back road to get here. It was raining the day we visited the park. Good park to learn the good rush history, and see the equipment/building left from the era. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the park. Wear good hiking boots if it rains, as the ground can be slippery.
Excellent mining historical site. There historical documents. Tasteful displays of artifacts. There are easily accessible trails to the mind various out buildings. The park service staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. Great family activity. The food vendors have good hots dogs and other camp type food.
One of my favorite places with easy walking trails to stroll around building at your own pace. Take time to go through the displays at the visitor's center. There is a women truck driver that came down the mountain for supplies or to take families to town. Mining is interesting but the family life of families that lived up at... 更多
Brilliant. Make sure you go on the ranger led tour of 1 hour because they unlock about 6 big buildings and take you to see inside which are as they were and really fascinating including bum rooms kitchens mess rooms etc. Also take the short trail to see see the old mining buildings . Not the oldest of mines (closed... 更多
Requires plenty of hiking, but views are definitely worth it! Make sure to hike Gold Cord Lake Trail to see the hidden beauty of a small lake almost on the top of mountain ridge.
We went in late September and the road to the actual old buildings was closed. We walked it from the last stop point. The snow was falling and the area was not crowded. It was about a twenty minute walk but the scenery was awesome. Not much going on with the old buildings. Nothing open, but well worth the walk.... 更多
An easy 25 minute drive from Palmer, AK to hike in one of the most spectacular places in the world! There are endless trails to explore if you are adventurous! And don't miss Gold Cord Lake, a strenuous but very doable hike. Anyone who visits Alaska should definitely have Independence Mine at Hatcher Pass on their itinerary. I am blessed to... 更多
On a trip to Alaska this summer we made a stop at Independence Mine and found it to be an interesting place to visit. I love history so I always enjoy an opportunity to see how people lived and worked in past generations. There a quite a few buildings still standing and others that are dilapidated. All of the buildings... 更多
