We were on a fishing tour in Haines. We found the views of the Chilkoot River breathtaking as we made our way to Chilkoot Lake. Our fishing guide saw some cars parked and many out taking photos, so he was nice enough to stop also. We had a superb time watching a bear and cub doing salmon fishing for about... 更多
When I first arrived in Alaska I sought to understand why so many Alaska rivers are so wide and shallow. It's got to do with the amount of sediment that they carry (lots) and the intensity of peak flows, especially during spring thaw. The Chilkoot river is known for its wildlife, primarily its gathering of eagles and its grizzly bears feasting on salmon. This is Valhalla for photographers, which is why I lead a group here every year.
Loved our visit to the Haines area. Stayed at a lodge overlooking the Chilkoot River. Viewed bald eagles in the trees and a bear with her two cubs walking along the river. Gorgeous area! Would love to return! Bring camera and binoculars.
We rented a car in Haines ( From Captains Choice Hotel) and drove up the Chilkoot river twice. It is a fantastic place. Was saw many Bald Eagles. Nesting, flying, fishing, eating fish. We saw bears, a mother and her cubs playing in the river.
