The hotel had pleasant rooms, and the best dining we experienced in our 1-month trip around Costa Rica (French chef). Very helpful staff. The best birdwatching was right in the pretty hotel garden. We felt a a wonderful joy of delight upon arriving. Grounds are beautiful and of course this is a great location to view the Quetzal. Excellent accommodations!
Great place, beautiful grounds, great opportunities for birding. Marino was our guide and he helped us find the Quetzals and other birds that were on the grounds . The restaurant and bar was very nice, great food and service...
You can hike the trails in the reserve (all of which are uphill, sometimes steep), but I recommend going with Melvin Fernandez. He knows his birds and natural history and you'll get more out of your visit. Plus, he'll take you up the hill in his outfitted truck, so you don't have to wear yourself out hiking uphill.
Great place with quiet trails to escape the crowds. A distinctive cloud forest with dripping vegetation and rolling clouds creating quite an atmosphere. Climbs can be a little steep, but paths are well maintained.
Lots of hummingbirds and two Quetzals, lots more besides. Remote location. 2-3 hours from San Jose. Good facilities (accomodation) nearby
