The trails at Bon Secour were nice and well-maintained, and fine for hiking/walking. But we were there looking for birds at the peak of spring migration, and this was not the place. The visitor center (such as it is) was closed on weekends(!).
It was nice to get out and walk after a long drive from Iowa to get here. Very nice path to enjoy being outside and not worry if you were going to slip on the snow and ice we left at home. Spotted an osprey building her nest in an old tree by the gulf which was awesome!!
We visited the visitors' center, where they were very friendly and helpful. We chose the trail rated as moderate to strenuous because they said it was the prettiest. It wasn't really all that lovely, but the kids were excited to see a pretty large crab. We turned around when we got 1/2 mile from the end of the trail because... 更多
This is a well-preserved coastal wildlife habitat with an extensive network of hiking trails. Most of the Gulf Shores area is heavily developed with vacation properties, restaurants, and entertainment, but you can come to this refuge to check out what the area looked like before it was developed. Lots of wildlife to check out depending on the time of year.
