In the Oreba Chocolate Tour you not only get to experience one this worlds greatest inventions (chocolate), you get to view sloths, a wide variety of poison dart frogs, and sometimes even toucans. Most importantly you also see how the indigenous people live within the jungle while growing 100% certified organic shade grown cacao and making chocolate with it. The tour is more of a hike through the cacao farms and jungle where the guide goes through the surprisingly difficult process of growing, harvesting, fermenting, drying, roasting, and grinding process. You learn about what makes the farm organic, how the use of trees, plants, and animals help keep the organic system intact and how the indigenous people work within this system to produce some of the worlds finest cacao and chocolate products. The tour includes a traditional Ngobe Indian lunch consisting of local roots and it actually tastes wonderful. The tour also includes transportation to and from the "Bocas Marine Tour" boat dock, a guided tour in English (its Caribbean English) or Spanish, a traditional chocolate making demonstration in the farm, viewing of the animals, the traditional lunch, and one 4 oz bag of which ever chocolate you would like. As of right now the tour could be considered adventurous as the hike is a little steep in some spots. It is well worth it once you get to the top though as the most heavenly chocolate you have ever tasted is awaiting you at the top fresh from grinding. The tour runs in rain or shine and bringing a rain jacket is advised as this is the rain forest and things get a little wet. Also, good hiking shoes that you don't mind getting really muddy. Bringing a camera is a definite must as the chancing of seeing more than one type of poison dart frog are 100% and there is about a 95% of seeing a sloth. The tour starts at 10am and runs every day. Please note: We now have a place to stay! It is very rustic and with a local indigenous family. There are two beds available for $5 a bed. Ask the tour guide about them and the waterfall tour that is now being offered in the community.

We took this tour as part of our vacation in Bocas Del Toro. It's about a twenty minute boat ride from the Island to the mainland. On arrival we were greeted by two representatives of the indigenous co-op who work the jungle and extract the cacao beans. The tour is absolutely amazing and heart warming, not to mention an eye... 更多

We enjoyed a great family tour today at Oreba. Our guide, and indigenous community member Jack, was knowledgeable, friendly, and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. I booked directly by calling the organization and as promised we were met at the boat dock and taxied to the cacao farm. Our seven year old loved grinding beans into chocolate paste... 更多

We had two lovely guides who explained (in English and Spanish) all about the cocoa making process, the farm and the local plants and animals. The price includes the transportation, the tour around the farm, cocoa tasting, traditional organic meal and souvenirs, so it is really worth the price. A good way to support the local business and community.

You can get tickets through the Super Gourmet store or call the number on Oreba's website. Don't worry about the transportation, it's straightforward. Coming from Bocas Town, you take a water taxi from the marina closest to the Police station (taxi 25 I think it's called) to Almirante- this is $6pp and takes 20 min. From there, a car will... 更多

It was necessary for us to catch a taxi from the dock after arriving from Isla Colon. Upon arrival we were greeted at the front of the farm, on the side of the road. We walked a short walk up a hill to the 'dining hall' where we had a very tasty meal of rhubarb, spinach, chicken and rice with... 更多

A wonderful mix of history, culture, botany, and ecology. And the purest, most delicious, 100% organically processed, grown, and produced chocolate on the face of the planet. Jack, our young multilingual guide, was fantastic. Samuel, the elder statesman (proud father of 8), was someone you could hang with all day.

Tour through the Gnobe village great as well as tasty foods of the indigenous. Cultural part was the highlight of the trip. Nice jungle walk seeing sloth and frogs. Where it got weird was when the tour guide stopped abruptly in the middle of the cocoa lecture and asked for our receipt of payment. I had paid a tour company... 更多

This farm is close to Almirante, so you have to take a water taxi there and then a cab that is paid for by the tour company to the Ngobe native community...They are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about plants, they show you the ins and outs of growing cocoa until the step of making chocolate...You get a free lunch included,... 更多

We stopped on our way from Boquete to Bocas as part of our day tour. Great experience. Seeing the cocoa trees, fruit, and chocolate making process. Highly recommend. Great to directly support the local Ngobe communities. Now my kid knows chocolates don't grow on trees - at least not the way she thought it would ;-)

I love chocolate and this opened my eyes to the difficulties faced by cacao farmers in Panama, Central America and the rest of the world. We were collected by a young chap who spoke excellent English, and taken to the farm. He translated while the guide showed us the many fruit trees on our tour of the farm, and the... 更多
