Small area on display on ground floor of building entry is free. Of interest is life size models of traditonal houses. And photo's from early colonial times and those of the wildlife. Also there are many images of the early explorers and the tribes they interacted with.
A little tired and old fashioned, but interesting as both in terms of what was covered and how it was exhibited . . . almost a time capsule of a bygone age! They very kindly looked after our bags whilst we explored Sandakan!
Sad sad sad..well, the heritage trail idea was good in order to attract the tourists. Being part of the heritage trail pit stop, this place seriously need an upgrade. There was no clear sign board that could direct us to this place and when we arrived, it was closed with a sign on its door written 'we are closed because...
After the excellent Agnes Keith House we had hopes of the Heritage Museum. On the day we visited the ground floor was closed due to lack of electricity, old files were dumped all over the place, and the dust in the upper floor rooms meant we had to leave quickly.
This museum either needs to be improved or else just...
It was small and had few artifacts (it obviously doesn't have much of a budget) but it did explain well the early history of the town and how it was affected by WWII. We learned some things we didn't know and it was well worth it for us.
