We took the afternoon train and the weather was great. Lots of sun and no clouds. Train cars are nicely restored and comfortable. You don't often get to ride on a steam train so don't miss this. Beautiful journey from the train station. Which is In a very pretty little town lovely watching the local people many of them in traditional costume. Train then winds its way down the mountains. Our young guide was totally useless. He told us a little. Then spent the rest of the journey on his iPhone !
We arrived in the afternoon to Alausi by bus and had planned on taking the 3 o'clock train, but it was quite cloudy and starting to rain, and after asking around apparently every afternoon was like this. Train ride is only 12 KM, but goes from 11,000ft above sea level to 6,000 by way of switchbacks along the mountain side. Beautifully restored train cars.
It was a pleasant ride and very nice countryside and well worth the price but it just doesn't stand out enough to make it the purpose of a trip.
