The visit of the small town of Rovinj must start from this Arch, just at the beginning of the visit of the town. It has also a turkish decoration on the back side of the arch.
This was once the main gateway to the old town. There is a Venetian head at the top of the arch on one side and a Turkish head on the other. You don't really need to make an effort to visit this place. You'll normally walk past it in the main square. Do read the history of this gate before... 更多
This arch is at the bottom of a long narrow street, and they were doing some work on it, so i nearly missed it. It is decorated differently on each side and again is a must do if you are in Rivinj.
the gate was the main entrance to the old town of Rovinj and in front of it was a bridge crossing to the mainland until the 18th century when the waterway was filled in and became a street.
On the main square you will found Balbi's Arch. Nice to see. From here you will enter in old part of town, this is the way to church st.Eufemija. Rovinj is much nicer in this part, old streets, houses, here you can find nice souvenirs for reasonable price...
Interesting attraction & worth a photo or two but you need to also research its history to appreciate its contribution to the old town
During our break we read about the history of the arch and decided to visit. it's in the centre of the town and leads on to an amazing warren of shops and restaurants.
