The fort is very old , built by the Portuguese to guard the entrance of the bay of Guanabara. A soldier takes you through as a guide.
Lats time I visited the forte my wonderful mom was still among us and she loved the time we spent there! Great for history lovers and also nature lovers as it does give a different perspective of Rio de Janeiro. Make sur you visit the fort as well.
The views are amazing, the tour done by the army was excellent (only in Portuguese that a friend translated). The fort has unbelievable views of Rio. We went in the evening and the sunset was brilliant. This is not publicised enough, it cost 10 Reals and was amazing. The drive to the fort is spectacular and goes thru some fishing... 更多
This is a fortress from the early 16 century. From here the Portuguese could stop invaders from the sea to get into the Guanabara Bay. The fortress is running by the Brazilian Army and although the guides (soldiers) are nice and know well the history, is difficult for non-Portuguese-speaking tourist to follow. It´s a lovely view.

If you are going to Rio and don't mind crossing the bridge and visit Niteroi, as long as its not raining and its daytime, go and visit this Fortress. They offer a guided visit (in Portuguese) to the Fortress, which is active until today. You won't visit the barracks or anything like that, only the historical part with the cannons... 更多
It´s a good place to have a view from the entrance off the Baia da Guanabara. The ships come closer to the fortress and it´s available a guided visit in the fortress.
