Your admission gets you a very detailed, tour of the first hydroelectric powered house, build in the 1880's. The tour guides are very knowledgeable. The tour takes over 90 minutes and is very comprehensive; great for history buffs, but could be a little long for the casual observer. They also have an additional, hands on exhibit in the basement. The first home in the world to be light by Edison hydro-electricity. The home is a well preserved example of life in the late 19th century, with many of the original electroliers and switches still in operation.
Very pretty, beautiful historical home. Knowledgeable and friendly tour guide, Christine, had an endless amount of facts to share about the home, the history of the occupants and the tie to hydroelectric power. Restored painted ceilings, wood work, etc. is beautifully done. Hands on learning centers in the basement were interesting. They are in the process of restoring the kitchen... 更多
My wife loves visiting mansion when we travel, so we stopped in here for the tour. The guide was fine, at times it was hard to understand her (she had a deep foreign accent). House was big, but only got to see some of it. They shown us three rooms downstairs and four rooms upstairs (all bed rooms, though you... 更多
Very interesting history attached to the house. The staff providing the guided tour were very knowledgeable about the property and it's history. Great place to spend an afternoon appreciating the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
The volunteer that gave us the guided tour was friendly, informative and accurate. The history was excellent. If we lived in the area, we would regularly have our book of the month meetings there. This is a historic home that continues to investigate to learn and share more history w the visitors.
