If you like quirky art combined with science, then this exhibit is for you. It's located on the grounds of the Harrington Discovery Center and should definitely be visited during your visit to the museum.
I didn't know that Amarillo was the helium capital of the world. Fun trivia and interesting monument. Worth stopping by to see and snap a few photos.
Read about the Helium Monument in the AAA guide and decided to stop by and see it. It was very interesting and a good stretch stop.
Interesting stop by a park, playground, and the botanical gardens. Very teachable moments about helium, natural resource stewardship, and time capsules.
This is a good place to stop and stretch your legs. If you are looking for an off-the-wall tourist stop, this is it. Not much to do otherwise. Reading the plaques don't take but a few minutes. You know, this was kind of a big deal, when I was a kid in Amarillo...in like the 1970's...but unless you are just in the area...its really not that much! Its a cool honor to the city and Amarillo's Helium History, but not much of a tourist sight!
If a monument to the second lightest element (mined heavily in the area) sounds dumb to you, it likely will be. We were happy to find the monument. It had been moved from where it was 40+ years ago when I fist saw it. I told my family that there were pictures of inside of the sections of the types of items that were stored inside for the generations of the future to enjoy. I found out that what you see... 更多
