More than 1,200 years ago, a group of Caddo Indians knows as the Hasinai built a village and ceremonial center on the prairie overlooking the Neches River. The site was the southwestern-most ceremonial center for the great Mound Builders, a culture which spanned the eastern North American woodlands for more than 2,500 years. Today, three earthen mounds still rise from the lush Pineywoods landscape. Discover the everyday life of the Caddo people through captivating burials, religious ceremonies and a temple; and explore the history of this ancient site.

Great stop to learn about a part of Texas history. My boys loved the golf cart ride to the different parts of the property and they really loved that it's a "touch" museum. We played drums, tried out a bow and arrow (no shooting of arrows, don't worry) and sat down on a wolf-skin blanket. A great stop for kids.

The docent of this site was very helpful and informative, clearly very interested in maintaining the cultural significance of this site. There is a nice gravel trail around the grounds and informative signs to give you an idea of what the area was like when the Caddo people lived there. I had heard it mentioned that they may add a... 更多

Whether you live in East Texas or are passing by you need to make a stop here. It is a great place to learn a little piece of history! The museum is hands on and has a great deal to see and read about. You can sit down for a 9 minute video about the Caddo Indians (highly recommended) before... 更多

This is a well preserved historic site that we caught just before sunset. The low sun accentuated the mounds and made our walk very pleasant. Park closed at 4:30.

If you're looking for a good educational stop, definitely worth the drive from the highway. Very interesting. Not the most impressive mounds I've ever seen, but a great site with a lot of great information nonetheless.

Others have said it better than I can but I found this place super interesting. You probably won't be super wowed with what you see but if you're interested in learning, reading and visualizing the ancient history here, you'll absolutely love it. We drove about an hour out of our way and I'm glad we did. Plus, the folks working... 更多

If you are following the El Camino Real (Hwy 21) you are immersing yourself in early Spanish & Anglo/German history. So this is an important stop since these people were here earlier. There isn't a lot to see, but the site is evocative of an earlier culture. There are the mounds and a good short film on Caddo culture and... 更多

The mounds are a small portion of what they once were. The artifacts are replicas. But, you hardly see stuff like this in the US. If nearby for something else, stop and see. You can drive golf cart around track to the sites.
