Even if you are not travelling to Finland, a visit should really be made to travel in the footsteps of Lenin. He returned to Russia via this station. Due to its history it has many paintings and mosaics to Lenin on the walls. The biggest monument is the statue outside
We took the train from here to Helsinki. Got here early, and waited in the main hall, which, by this leg of our journey, was beginning to blend in with all the other train stations we have been in. We were taking the Allegro high speed train from St Petersburg to Helsinki so came to drop off luggage in the afternoon. The exterior is post modern classical with a figurative frieze on the exterior of a fairly brutalist style. The interior is definitely more functional than decorative. Family of four adults traveled in second class very comfortably. The process from booking with Russian Trains to arriving at Finlandia was handled with great courtesy and professionalism. Gave us the confidence to try the underground to travel to our hotel just next to Ploschad Vosstaniya. Great experience all round, highly recommended.
