Louis Comfort Tiffany designed a gorgeous chapel for the Willard sisters who wished to honor their deceased parents by donating a chapel to a seminary once located in Auburn. The other buildings are lost, but this jewel box of a building remains. There was a guide who was quite informed who led our "private" tour (just two people). Fortunately, we... 更多
very worthy to go and see the tiffany glass windows. overall it was pretty interesting including altar flooring and would be a great place for a wedding
Made a quick stop in Auburn to visit the William Seward House. Heard about the chapel and wanted to quickly see the Tiffany Windows. You need to be on a tour to see them, and it's $8 for adults, which is a complete rip off. My mom and I got into the Seward House for only $13 total and the... 更多
Easy to find, well maintained and full of unbelievable Tiffany windows that are in perfect/untouched condition. The staff is excellent---you get an up close, unobstructed view of Tiffany at its best
A very beautiful chapel to visit. It has an interesting history, as most places do, but it is most known for the extensive use of Tiffany glass and windows. We were given a short introduction by a nice woman who was happy to answer any questions we had. There was a short video, and we were allowed to take all... 更多
Before you go, I would suggest some research. This is not the bright color glass famous for Tiffany lamps. Not to say it is not a great place to visit. Every part of the chapel was designed by Tiffany. Take a tour for background stories.
The Willard Chapel is in a gorgeous building and is filled with lovely wood work and beautifully crafted stained glass. The building is also home to a well stocked thrift shop, staffed by volunteers. The proceeds go to support the Willard Chapel.
Willard Chapel is Tiffany in it's entirety: pews, mosaic floor, chandeliers, windows, and a magnificent stained glass window of Jesus grasping Peter who leapt out of the boat in faith. It is the lone standing building of what used to be a seminary. A must see when in Auburn, NY or its environs.
To my knowledge this is the only chapel designed, and built by the Tiffany Company. This was located at a former seminary. There used to be two structures located at it as well, that were demolished.
The Willard Chapel in little old Auburn, NY is one of the few remaining churches in the country designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is a hidden gem that few know about or appreciate, even those living here. It is well worth a stop to see the beautiful design and stained glass for which Tiffany is known.
