This would have been a better experience if the tour was not as long. I felt like I could qualify for a Ph.D in locks by the time that I got back to the ship :). The beginning of the tour started with a trip to the observation tower of the original locks. Word of warning, there are 78 steps... 更多
Took a shore excursion from Celebrity Equinox. Very interesting tour of the Gatun locks and the new expansion for larger ships. Approx. 4 hours. I found the observation tower at the old locks very fascinating, watching the ships pass thru the canal and the water levels change in the locks. Everything was explained. Tour guide Juan was very informative. Not... 更多
Went though the old locks on a private sailboat. The scale of the locks is immense. We were told the original gates are still in use. Any chance to see the the locks in operation would be well worth the effort!
Took a tour there. Truly amazing the engeering and how over the years it still works. Really big ships going through with almost no room to spare. The train engines which pull them through a new up dated based on the same concept as the original. Very close by is the new expansion which the mega ships go through. You... 更多
What a awesome thing to see ships moving in and out of the locks. You can see the new locks if you are on a tour! You do have to pay to get in but can view from 2 different heights while a worker tells you all about the locks. A wonder of the world you must see. Lots of... 更多
Great viewing platform and can see the whole operation. Excellent commentary in both English and Spanish. Live by old Gatun locks 1962-1964 so a real treat to see the new locks.
An absolutely fascinating visit which would appeal to most people. The engineering skills and precision needed for all the locks are almost unbelievable and it is an amazing sight to watch huge ships being guided on their way through the canal system from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. This is indeed a must to see.
Fascinating trip to the Gratun locks - then onto the Panama railroad on a organized trip from our cruise ship which was docked in Colon. The train journey was equally as good - the carriages were comfortable with open sections where you could take photos of the . Age range in our party was 19-69 and we all enjoyed the... 更多
Visited Gatun Locks as part of an excursion from cruise ship docked at Colon. Wasn't sure what to expect but spent 1 1/2 hours absolutely enthralled with the workings of the locks. Three viewing areas, catering for all mobilities, at the old locks and a very interesting and informative 'live' commentary of events as ships entered/departed. Difficult to appreciate the... 更多
