This was the second time we've gone through the locks. The best way to see the entire thing is to get up on your cruise ships deck around 5:00 a.m. You'll see the ship go through the breakwater and you'll be able to view the ships lined up to go through the locks. FYI: We only saw this from the ship, passing up and down! Yeah, thanks to an ignorant concierge on our ship, we bummed out on shore excursions. Well worrth the stop to view the locks in action, gives you a different perspective from being on a large cruise ship going through, you are literally at the water line.
Toured the Gatun locks on Norwegian Pearl cruise ship. Went through the locks and then took a shore excursion to see other ships go through. An amazing experience to see this engineering marvel.
