Nizwa Fort is a landmark near the souk and well worth a visit. There is a wonderful view from the rooftop in all directions. On the ground floor there is good background information on the history of the fort and the surrounding area and its people.
This is a cracking excursion if your in the Nizwa area. The fort is restored middle ages fort. It is heavily restored so that it looks a little more like something from Disney but it seems like they have done a good job on it and it still makes for a great walk around. It is a little sparsely furnished...
Entrance fee is 500 Baisa per person. The place is fully renovated, but it's "not furnished". Hence you basically walk around an empty space with a very few decorations. However, the roof offers a nice view of the surrounding area.
There is a cafeteria, washrooms and a small gift shop inside the fort.
The fort is usually open 9 AM...
The fort is pretty big and massive, and you get lost among the stairs and rooms. The view from the tower is very nice. Don't miss the exhibit downstairs of artifacts and the explanations of the omani culture.
It is a nice fort to see in Nizwa if you happen to be there but it is a long drive from Muscat - about 2 hours . It is nice attraction and good to visit and there is a souk around it. The ticket is half a OMR to get it so it is cheap but there is honestly...
