It was built over an old horse race track, good for the ones living close by to enjoy the weekend on a big park , playing with kids or just spending some time to rest. It is not a touristic place, appropriate for locals.
This place was used to be the largest racetrack until it was closed on 1943. After WW2, American Forces used this location as housing and golf field. In 1978, Negishi Shinrin Park was open. My husband remembers playing golf here as a child. We were so happy to be able to return and see the park. He could remember the location of practically all nine holes. It was a pretty Sunday and nice to see so many people enjoying the park.
i am sure all will go to ueno station side for sakura(cherry blossom). but for local, i prefer calm ,huge area . for picnic at no fee. recommend to familys, and couple too. bring your meals, seat down and enjoy meals here.
