As we toured this area of the Thousand Islands, our boat captain told us the interesting story of Heart Island. It had to be true love to go to the trouble to alter the shape of this island into a heart.
Apparently either George Bolt left detailed plans or the curators of this property have well imagined the grandeur of the turn of the 20th century to recreate what unlimited wealth of that era must have looked like. Great views from everywhere to boot.
Heart Island is in the shape of a heart and Boldt Castle is on the Island. There are a lot of "hearts" along the grounds of the island. Stained glass windows, flower beds etc. all have some form of hearts in them. Courteous staff.

Public, you can access with several boat companies in the area.
Beautiful surroundings, dramatic views from a to it, a recommended visit.
We stayed in Alexandria Bay for 1 night, coming from Boston we expected this area to be more upscale but the town was very run down. If you are looking for a Newport, RI feel - forget about it! We were quite disappointed in the overall feel of the Alexandria Bay. If we ever visit Heart Island again, we will...
