Before the Thruway, this was the best way to cross NY State in an east-west direction. Now it offers an excellent sampling of small-town and rural Americana. First of all, the countryside is beautiful and some of the vistas are downright spectacular. I never knew so much corn is grown in NY. My favorite section is from Madison to Albany... 更多
Find the jewels of local restaurants, shops and parks on the alternate road to the highways. Best for people who love to meander along the road and discover hidden treasures!
Route 20 can go from Albany to Schenectady and beyond. The roads are well kept. There are many supermarkets and shopping centers as well as crossgate mall is on route 20.
Rt. 20 runs parallel to the New York State Thruway running east to west. 50 years ago we used Rt. 20 to avoid the Thruway toll, but more recently we drove on Rt. 20 to avoid a big backup of traffic on the toll road and were amazed by the development since we were last there all those years ago... 更多
The section I travel is between Albany and Richfield Springs, NY. It's a pleasant road, but not a tourist destination. It includes 1 of my favorite views: Cherry Valley not far from the Teepee gift shop (but on the other side of the road. It has a place where the road appears to stop at the sky not far from... 更多
One of the most beautiful roadways in America -- Elihu Root said that a century ago and it's still true. Beautiful alternative to the Thruway. If you have time and love the rolling hills of of the foothills of the Adirondacks, Route 20 is your place. Lots of fun restaurants along the way.
I've always believed that the journey is as important as the destination ----so I'll avoid interstates unless pressed for time. Once you get past Guilderland going west from Albany, this is a charming rural route passing through or near several small towns and some pretty scenic views of the Mohawk Valley. Haven't gone further west than Cooperstown though one day... 更多
Rt 20 thru Albany and Guilder land is nothing but a build up road lined with a couple of shopping malls and office buildings and store fronts. As you get further west, it is a country road with farms and nice scenery. I don't think I would recommend it, if you are traveling out of town just to see Rt... 更多
I personally didn't find anything much worth getting excited about here. There was a lot of shopping and storefront activity along the way, but no more than on any other similar small highway, which runs most of the length of New York. The road itself is in need of repairs along part of its traverse of the Albany area. I... 更多
