Roads are very small. Lots of traffic to reach up. Many times you have wait long time to get out of traffic. The Telescope viewing gallery is very small. During rush hours it takes long time to get a chance. I skipped it.
Plenty of scenery is visible from the place and one can feel the "coolness" also as it appears significantly cooler than surrounding areas. Also scenery is excellent and one can see Ooty town from top of the hill.
Its a second highest peak of south india. From here you can see the entire ooty on one side and coonoor on the other. As time goes it will be more beautiful and cold.
I visited this place because it was rated high in 'Things to do' in Ooty. What I found after managing to negotiate through the busy traffic, was an extremely crowded place, with people squeezing in to take selfies, and a very ordinary view of the hills. Telescopes were not functional. Absolutely, an avoidable place.
How I wish there was a trekking route to this hill top, the tallest in South India. Sadly, there is just a 10 km road going to the top where there are innumerable stalls and coffee shops. The views are nice, but nothing you don't see from a drive on the Ooty Coonoor road.
Doddabetta is the highest peak which provides a panoramic view of and around Ooty. The path leading to the peak from the parking has small open shops and food joints throughout where almost all the special items of Ooty are sold at a reasonable price. It is the highest point in Ooty and scenic enough. It has views of Coimbatore on one side, Karnataka, Coorg on the other side and Kerala on the third side, on a very clear day. But the place has almost been ruined by just too many tourists. There is just too much crowd and it has become dirty and overcrowded... 更多
