Take a prepaid taxi from the Trivandrum airport, reach Varkala helipad and then take an auto which will take you directly to the beach. Its' a religious place, we saw a large crowd on the beach. The hotels near the beach did not look very impressive, we preferred a resort which was about 4 km away from the beach
This beach is down the cliff near Varkala Helipad. You walk few steps and you are in front of the beach. There are umbrella's available to protect you from sun.
We have been to many beaches across India including Goa but this is one of the cleanest and finest beaches I have been to. There is ample security including lifeguards and other security measures.. We could also see many foreigners coming to this beach because of the above reasons
This ebach is holy for the hindus of kerala for praying for the ancestors. worth visiting once and crossing to the other side of the beach for swimming
The central part of the beach is occupied everyday by some priests who perform rituals for the dead souls of ancestors for a fee. The beach is n't exactly for pleasure-seekers, although the view from the cliff is pretty good.
It is a bit easier to reach Papasnanam Beach using the road passes through North Cliff Helipad. Downhill the road approaches straight to the beach, where Hindu rituals take place during the morning. Very little effort been noticed in preservation of such virgin beach. Locals are majorly contributing to pollution of the beach. Few take bath there. Some parts are full of litters. Hawkers were not seen on the beach but local noisy folks spoils one's peace.
The beach is about 10 minutes walk (about 500 m) from the bus stop. In the early morning (in certain days or every day?) it is busy with people who perform certain rituals for their dead.
