The Central Lakes Trails are beautifully maintained and offer a great place to walk, run or bike. Plenty of public access points and the scenery, lakes, parks and wildlife are really lovely. Not just a summer activity! Especially pretty in the fall.
Trail is paved; it's in good shape. I rode west out of Alexandria. I really liked the section between Alexandria and Garfield. There are a lot of wild flowers. I saw a lot of swans and a muskrat swimming. There were several people biking but it wasn't congested. There were also people walking in places close to town.
This biking or hiking path goes through parks, along lakes and through towns so you can stop for lunch--path is exceptionally maintained and is good for bikers, hikers, skaters and boarders. Goes for miles and miles, town to town.
I rode this countless hours. Countless miles. I love this trail, it has been so good for my training. It goes all the way to Fergus Falls and Osakis. In Osakis it connects with the Wobegon trail. Past Garfield, the trail dies. Nobody else goes past it, I love that part. When you can be riding for miles without seeing...
