We ducked into the museum at City Hall -- lots of neat artifacts of Brasov and Transylvania throughout history. A small temporary WWI exhibit was what my teenage sons were interested in, but I liked the bronze cloak pins and old trade guild artifacts better :)
We did not know what to expect from Brasov (Hermannstadt) and were very pleasantly surprised by a bustling, superbly rebuilt city center with lots of quaint and truly original, not overly touristy shops! "Mathilda" is one I remember - handmade, spectacular designer clothes with a definite Romanian style!

You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside but there's a two-story history museum in here, including an interesting WW1 exhibit. Worth a trip if you're hanging out in the square. Ticket prices are inexpensive. You can kill an hour or so going through the rooms and checking out all the objects they have on display.
