We did not go inside the museum but we did walk around the the ruins. We spent a good 45-60 minutes walking around the area at a medium to fast pace. Entry for the ruins is $5. Make sure to climb to the top of the old cathedral which has beautiful views of the city and ocean.
Panama VIejo is the location of the first settlement by Europeans in Panama. As such, it's mostly ruins. When we went, it was undergoing what looked like badly needed renovation, so the formal museum building was not open. We did, however, spend an hour or so walking through the ruins. This museum could have been far better if it was properly maintained. The exhibitions on the second floor give you the history of Panama Viejo. Quite good and educational.
