Progressive priest Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero was killed while conducting mass. Archbishop Romero has been beatified and will be identified as a saint. Monseñor Romero was an advocate for the impoverished and oppressed, breaking from dictates of the autocratic Catholic hierarchy. I was unfamiliar with this priest and the local guide provided much information.
I really enjoyed visiting this place. I had watched the movie, Romero, and studied the history - so it was at once familiar, and compelling.
