This is truly a very rich place, with A LOT to see and to do. This is an exceptionally large square, at less than 5 minutes walking distance to the Egyptian Museum, The River Nile, many downtown attractions, and with many many traditional restaurants around. Perhaps worth a drive-by, given its historical significance, but not much to se here. Tours know tourists come to the area, to see Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum. The construction processes inside the square had finished, now you can enjoy a huge open area inside downtown Cairo, most of the buildings had been painted. Really you will enjoy the air.
Standing in Tahriir Square or the Midan, one sees history and life in all directions. It is central to so much of Cairo and is certainly a perfect meeting place for friends and family.
At the end is a square but a square that represents part of the history of Egypt. They are improving it but still a lot to do. In the same place you have the Cairo Best Museum, some public government buildings, Ritz Carlton, etc. Walking distance to other historical places and near very good hotels.
A huge space next to the Museum, it had tons of crazy traffic crossing 50 roads. Noone cares for the traffic lights so had to do a jig and dart across to save your life !
