If you think about a synagogue in a muslim country it is already an unexpected place by itself. It is a place with a lot of catolic churchs and also this synagogue that was built a lot of time ago. Legend says it is where Moises was found by the royal family. If you are in Cairo, dont miss it.

This place has a lot of history being the place near to where Moses was rescued from the Nile. The building is fantastic with a lot of history, unfortunately there are almost no Jews left in Egypt that can worship so the synagogue is not active. Worth visiting though!
There are very few Jews left in Egypt, if any at all. Countless invasions, colonizers, and changes in power have forced the Jewish community to all but dissolve but there is the quietly brilliant Ben Ezra synagogue that stands testament to the time when the Jews flourished in this ancient city.

Not so easy to find but it is signaled and people will help you to find the way. It s located on the lower part of old cairo and through those streets you will find churches and the end this very old Synagogue. It is worth the visit.
because a close friend of ours used to worship there many, many years ago so this is a place to remember and celebrate the days when the different religious communities lived in relative peace. We were deeply shocked to discover that the Torah was left in full view even though the synagogue is no longer consecrated.
