I stayed in the Marriott and went for a run around the island in the morning. Great place to stay. Didn't get a chance to try some of the restaurants in the area, but there looked to be some good options.
A lot of nice pubs and restaurants and a very nice view of the Nile, the history itself is very rich and its a melting pot of different culture, being logged in new Cairo it was a terrible traffic we made it in 2 hours, i highly recommend a hotel nearby and would do it again for sure!
If you are thinking of renting an apartment in Egypt, Zamalek is the right destination, with huge variety of restaurants, entertainment and central location to visit rest of Cairo. Great place to meet foreigners and is considered safest.

It is a very vibrant part of the city where you can find everything and you are near to everything: restaurants, cafés, pubs, pharmacies, clothing stores, antique stores, supermarkets you name it. You'll love either staying on Zamalek or visiting. There are many great restaurants and hotels. The only problem is that there's a lot of traffic.
