My family and I enjoyed learning about the original culture of New Caledonie and I was surprised how engaged my 6 year old was with the artefacts and the story boards. It wasn't very big but it was a lovely visit and I am glad we went.
Great museum, a must when in Noumea !! Very interesting with a lot of artifacts, just minutes walk from the center of town.
This museum is very interesting, with lots of Kanak and other Melanesian artifacts. It is very easy to find, and a short walk from the Morning Markets and Place des Cocotiers.
It is well worth visiting this fascinating museum to gain an insight into the culture & history of New Caledonia. There are many artifacts, annotated in French as well as a reconstruction of a typical meeting house. There are videos of elderly Kanaks relating their experiences (in French) of French colonial oppression in particular their participation in the forced labour... 更多
There isn't that much to do in Noumea so museums were high on our list. Despite the 1970s 'feel' we found it incredibly interesting. There are artifacts from all the Pacific regions. It's certainly worth an hour or so of your time and is only a short walk from town.
interesting collection of Kanak arts and traditions housed in a two storey air conditioned building, near the man PO and just past the McDonalds. The ground floor is devoted to New Caledonia while the mezzanine contains arts from other Pacific Island nations. Small signs in both French and English. To get the most out of the visit you really need... 更多
Worth a look through even though the entrance doesn't look all that interesting. Local pre-European culture explored with good information. Slanted towards children which is important to pass on history. If you visit the main museum and the maritime museum as well you will enjoy the full range of historical information.
I was pleasantly surprised with this museum, although it doesn't appear big the history is interesting. The English translation is written though which is bit tedious but I enjoyed this visit. There are a couple of interactive things for kigs but it is not an animation so unless they are a little older they may find it boring. If you are... 更多
At only 200 francs entry this was a bargain attraction but also very informative - wooden sculptures, boats and a real insight into not just NC but various south Pacific cultures. Easily accessed with a bus stop outside the door and located near the main market. Cheapest T-shirts in Noumea!
