A "Roots" trip was the one essential thing we wanted to do on our first Gambia trip and we took the advice of regular visitors by supporting a local agent rather than using our Tour Operator. There's not a lot to see, but it's the history you are here for and it is quite emotional to see the horrors of slavery as depicted in the museum and listening to the guide. My only complaint, is that too many children use these visits to beg from visitors which I found very disapointing
I went with a Group 'Rave about Africa' and did not know what to expect. The guide was so informative and knew his stuff. I was glad I had this experience with a group and conversations continue on the boat ride back to the hotel. A splendid and sobering experience.
