We didn't find this easy to find and were helped by some locals. However, as we entered we could see what an amazing place it is. There are some fantastic tombs. We have never seen a Jewish Cemetery and it was such an insight to see how other religions bury their loved ones. It is free to enter, however, men... 更多
Morocco use to have a substantial Jewish community. The cemetery is large with burial sites close together and two levels deep in some areas. The "grounds keeper" gave us a brief history. The cemetery offers a quiet refuge from the hustle of the city. As a male I was requested to wear a head cover.
Our Jewish heritage tour stopped by this very old cemetery in Marrakesh. The cemetery is very large with 3600 Jews buried here. Our group found it interesting. You would probably not be interested if you are not Jewish.
Had a fascinating visit to this cemetary and to learn about the Jewish community there and its history. I had a guided tour so not sure how much others would appreciate it without that tour info. Defintiely worth a visit
If you go here make sure you speak with someone who can give you the history of the cemetary. You won't spend much time here, but it's a wonderful place to visit after visiting the nearby synagogue in Marrakech.
For me it was most interesting to learn Jewish and Moslem people lived centuries nearby in piece! Talking to local people they say all local Jewish people are true Moroccan's.
I've had a life-long appreciation and respect of cemeteries; I've always enjoyed the calm and imagining the possible backstories to the epithets. Wandering the rather random paths in the hot sun and smoke - they were burning weed... 更多
We met a young gentleman, presenting himself as the Jewish chairman of the area, he gave a very fast tour, couldn't answer any questions and demanded a crazy tip of 400 MAD. My advice, don't pay for lousy service. The cemetery itself was interesting.
A very special place to visit , as a word of warning a number of local people told us the cemetery was either closed or only open to jewish people - neither of these are true. So make the effort and you won't be disappointed - the Synagogue is just a 4 minute walk away , so easy to visit... 更多
