My wife and I have visited the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, Iowa, and the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, Illinois, so I think we have a pretty good understanding of the people, nature and wildlife that have shaped the Mississippi River throughout history. Located on the Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway at... 更多
I can't say enough about this place. I have only lived in the Grafton area for two years and I have been at the Lock and Dam six times. It's wonderful for learning. It's great for all ages. The voluuteers are so knowledgeable and kind. Look for eagles here too! This is a wonderful place to visit.
A nice museum that educates visitors about the Mississippi River, history of the river, its importance as a transportation route, and the flora and fauna in the area. There is an informative movie about the bald eagles that overwinter in the area and a one-hour tour of the locks and dam. Most fun for me was the simulator that gives... 更多
The National Great Rivers Museum is located at Alton Lock and Dam #6, the last lock and dam on the Mississippi River. It's modern interior features the fish and wildlife that live in that part of the river and there is an excellent barge exhibit. Informative films are shown in its theater. Free tours of the lock and dam are... 更多
Even before you enter the building you start to learn about the river, with a combination water feature and 3-D map that you can splash in. Inside are excellent displays that teach about the Mississippi River, the building of the lock and dam system, why they are important to our national economy, life on the river and my personal favorite,... 更多
If you are interested in history of the dam. I recommend visiting the National Great River Museum. There are several spots that tell you the making of the dam.
I was surprised the first time I went here. There are many interactive displays that challenge your mind and teach at the same time. I love the huge map of the area where you can find all the places you want to go to and their relationship to the river. The guys especially love trying to pilot a riverboat at... 更多
Plan on spending a couple of hours when at this Museum. Between the tour, movies and exhibits, you receive a lot of information about the lock and dam system on the Mississippi. It also helps that the Museum employees/tour guides are very friendly.
Very interesting. The exhibits contain information and interactive displays on everything from flora and fauna of the Mississippi River, life through history of the Mississippi to engineers in of locks and dams. Also fun activities for children. Plus we were able to walk out and view one of the locks with Charlie our tour guide. Unfortunate the elevator was under... 更多
Interesting museum -- it explains nicely about barges and riverboats. But also you can take a tour of the locks and dam. REALLY interesting to see!
